Sign Structure Inspection
Collins
completed its first sign structure inspection in 1985 as part
of a project to write a sign structure inspection manual and
provide instruction to Illinois Department of Transportation
inspection personnel. Since then, Collins has inspected over
14,000 sign structures and high mast lights for DOTs nationwide.
Additionally, Collins has provided consultation services in
the development of inspection program requirements tailored
to different states’ needs.
Collins considers the safety of its inspectors and the driving
public to be paramount during any inspection. The inspectors
at Collins use safe climbing techniques, bucket trucks, and
standard traffic control methods for lane closures to access
all parts of a sign structure.
Today, there are increasing demands on public agencies to
develop and maintain rigorous inspection programs for the
sign structures that traverse the nation’s transportation
infrastructure. Collins is positioned to meet those needs
using highly qualified teams of engineers and inspectors.
