Collins was selected to perform routine underwater bridge inspections for the Ohio Department of Transportation’s District 11.
The scope of work included Level I and Level II underwater inspections, soundings, profile cross sections, and scour assessment of 37 bridges. All inspections were performed using ADCI dive teams.
During the first bridge inspection, the field team identified a large area of erosion and severe undermining of the approach slab. District 11 personnel were immediately notified of the defect and emergency repair crews were activated. Additionally, the team identified two more bridges that were left out of the scope of work. A contract modification added both bridges and allowed for the completion of the inspections.
The schedule required that all inspections be completed within 60 days. Due to this aggressive schedule, personnel from several offices were used on this project to complete it on time and under budget.
