Project Overview
Collins continues to provide above and underwater bridge inspection and load rating services on MBTA’s Systemwide bridges to evaluate their condition and determine their live load carrying capacity. This important work supports MBTA to ensure the continued safe operation of their rail and transit network. All work has been completed in accordance with applicable MBTA, FRA, AREMA, AASHTO, FHWA, and MassDOT guidelines and standards. The scope of work performed includes:
- Data gathering, research, and review of previous inspection, load rating reports, and record plans
- Interagency coordination, planning, and scheduling of inspections
- Conducting field inspections including In-depth, Routine, Fracture Critical, Special Member and Underwater inspection types
- Non-destructive evaluation
- Detailed reporting of deficiencies (supplemented by sketches and photographs)
- Preparing bridge inspection reports within MassDOT’s Bridge Inspection database (4D), as well as SI&A sheets and other pertinent data
- Repair recommendations and preliminary cost estimates
- Element Level evaluations (formerly PONTIS evaluations) for bridges that required a routine inspection
- Determining live load capacity for bridge structures
